As Panama makes every effort to control the spread of the Coronavirus, they´ve definitely created measures of which we’ve never seen before. Some have turned into some pretty good jokes:
Men can only go out on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays to do the shopping and women are only allowed out on Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays. That means when the husband goes out on Tuesday to shop, his wife gets to go back on Wednesday to exchange the items that he got wrong!
But now, we have to deal with the measure to shut down Sundays altogether. There will be no transportation via taxis on Sundays. Bus service will be extremely limited. Banks, restaurants, and stores will not be open for any reason on Sunday. Neither men nor women get this day to move around and the order from the Ministry of Health (MINSA) is that no one is allowed on the streets except for very few exceptions. If you belong to one of these elite exceptions, you can obtain a Salvoconducto or “Safe Passage” document from your company to travel from home to work and then back home. No travel to stores, restaurants, pharmacies or anything is allowed even if it’s during the 2-hour period of time you’ve been allotted during the week. SUNDAYS ARE CLOSED!! STAY HOME!!!
Today, the Director of the Panamanian National Police, Jorge Miranda in a live interview on TVN was very clear. The police are going to be emphatically strict with their road blocks, inspections and reviews of anyone that’s on the road that day. He used key words like “serious” and “zealous” referring to the attitude that the police will have on that day.
Stay safe… Stay healthy… And by all means STAY HOME!!… Especially this SUNDAY!
