Me in my underoos at 7 years?

Monday, June 8, 2020

I wore underoos as a kid and I’m a better person because of it. Fruit of the Loom had at least a few geniuses working for them when this came out. What better way for a single mom of two, to help their kids live out their dreams of becoming a superhero. I would one day become Batman and sweet little Andree would be “Wubberwoman” as she would say. If you’re at a loss to what underoos are, they were matching pajama tops and bottoms for either boys or girls featuring a character from comics, TV or other fantasy programs. They were awesome. My love for Batman grew and eventually I would be known as “Brettman“.

Me in my underoos at 7 years😊
Me in my underoos at 7 years😊

I had all the toys Batman had too, just none of the money.  If you were lucky, you’d get clobbered by the “Brett Boomerang”, which was probably just a pen that had been laying on my desk.  That’s how I’d try to get your attention and I’d do the stupendous sound effects to go along with it, “Woooh woooh woooh SMACK!” as it made contact with some part of your body.  Then one day, everyone jumped on the Batman fan wagon when Michael Keaton portrayed MY hero (not yours, MINE) in 1989.  I was in heaven.  Batman had been brought to life and I no longer looked like an idiot being the only 20-year old still wearing Batman garb.  As I grew, although I never left Batman to the wayside, my heroes started to evolve.  They became greater, they became real.  At first, my thought was to idolize all of the billionares, until after a while, I noted that the majority of billionares were big meanies who didn’t have the time for me.  (“The least you could do is answer my letter, BEZOS!”) Finding heroes was no easy task; getting them to answer your letters was even harder.

Then, I decided that I was doing this all wrong.  I needed someone truly admirable and particularly closer to where I was, just in case I needed to stalk them.  I also needed to rethink and redefine my concept of what a hero was.  They couldn’t be fake.  They had to be within my reach.  They had to be known for their courage, outstanding achievements or noble qualities.  Sounds impossible, eh?  Well, I’m here to tell you that these people exist.  The only way to find them is to cycle through all of the fakes first.  And sometimes, you actually get to share time with this real, courageous, noble, over-achiever.  Recently, I was able to share quality time with a whole handful of my heroes under one roof (but maintaining social distancing, I assure you).  Having them all together helped me to see the “why” we should follow or idolize the right heroes in our lives.  A true hero will inspire you to be a better person.  They will lift you up without lifting a finger.  Just being in their presence is enough to inspire happiness, better health, deeper faith, goal-setting, positive habits, business ideas, mental alignment, the list goes on.  Who’s my hero?  Well, I’ll keep that a secret for now.  Don’t have a hero to look up to?  Don’t worry, they’re out there.  Your hero will come along once you realize what you want out of life and have solidified your values.  OK, enough with the sappy talk, here’s some news:

TOP NEWS and TIDBITS

Yoli’s Summary

Quarantine, exits for the necessary provision of food, maintaining social distance and hygienic regulations so as not to spread the COVID-19 coronavirus are situations that citizens are currently experiencing due to the spread of the virus.

At each exit, the tension is exacerbated when seeing how several people do not respect the distance or worry about wearing masks. Given this, specialists point out that empathy is necessary for the duration of the coronavirus pandemic.

Empathy is the ability of the human being to understand the feelings and emotions of other people. Three types of empathy are identified, the emotional that is to feel “the reality of the other; the cognitive that is the understanding of real needs and the compassionate that is to show genuine concern in the other. It is considered that it is the ideal moment for this capacity be instilled in the little ones. We need help and close compassion.

‘HOSPITALS ARE AT 90% OF THEIR CAPACITY’: SANDOVAL

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) and the Social Security Fund (CSS) signed an “agreement of understanding” to detain insured patients in the Santo Tomás and San Miguel Arcángel hospitals.

This was reported by the coordinator of Intensive Care and member of the Advisory Committee for Coronavirus of Minsa, Julio Sandoval, who said that with this measure and the placement of 30 beds for intensive care units (ICU) in critical areas of the Arnulfo Dr. Arias Hospital Complex Madrid They seek to guarantee the attention of the population with Covid-19, which will require entering an ICU.

Health system authorities are looking for new alternatives to deal with the disease that threatens to collapse the public health system in the next 15 days, given that the growth in cases does not correspond to block 2 of economic activities reactivated on June 1.

Sandoval explained that they expect the effective reproduction rate to increase to 1.4, while the main public hospitals in the Panama district and the country are at 90% of their capacity.

The director of the CSS, Enrique Lau Cortés, explained that at this moment the hospital center only has five intensive care beds, which is why the need to increase availability by 20 to 30 more beds in a service that is “highly specialized and complex”.

Lau Cortés explained that the enabling of the beds will require the mobilization of the Neonatology and Obstetrics areas to a room that the Minister of Health, Rosario Turner, managed for them at the San Miguel Arcángel Hospital in the San Miguelito district.

In this sense, she indicated that they are defining the areas that they will use to install the existing beds and fans.

He also indicated that the oldest of the two hospital structures that this Dr. Arnulfo Arias Madrid Hospital Complex has has been assigned to the general hospital to serve Covid-19 patients.

However, for the coordinator of the National Negotiating Medical Commission and spokespersons for the specialists of the Dr. Arnulfo Arias Madrid Hospital Complex, Domingo Moreno, the management of these hospital facilities are part of a whole, which is why they cannot be separated for Covid-19.

Moreno indicated that intensive care units, for example, are in the building known as the specialized one.

SÁEZ-LLORENS: THE RECENT INCREASE IN CASES HAS NO RELATION TO THE FLEXIBILIZATION OF JUNE

Confused people with COVID
Confused people with COVID

The pediatric infectologist and member of the Advisory Committee of COVID-19 in Panama Xavier Sáez-Llorensexplained in the Radiography program, broadcast by RPC Radio and ECOTV, that the increase in cases of coronavirus, which have recently occurred in the country, did not It is related to the easing of June 1 that the authorities allowed.

“There is a bit of confusion on the subject of 14 or 15 days. If I get infected today, I can develop symptoms from two days to 14 days later … however the average onset of symptoms is about the fifth day, so that for me to see a significant increase in the number of cases at least five days have to pass, that is, the average number of days in which the symptoms develop. Now, on the fifth day if it is done the test, although it is normally being done on the sixth or seventh day, is that I have a positive test and that is that I disclose it, that is, the disclosure of the cases is taking place between the fifth and eighth day, if this is so, logically, the increase in cases that has taken place recently is not related to the easing of June 1,” said Sáez-Llorens.

The infectologist was emphatic when pointing out that the figures offered are the real ones, no information has been kept as in other countries that hide deaths from COVID-19, but there have been delays in reporting cases and communication failures.

The doctor highlighted that the Committee has spoken of the possible opening of the Integrated Hospital Panama Solidario for this week, although he still has details to resolve.

Regarding the tests, Sáez Llorens indicated that the ideal would be for 1 test to be performed in Panama for every 1,000 inhabitants, so that in the country some 4,000 tests should be done daily versus the 1,500 that are done.

Despite this, Panama is the third country in Latin America that does the most tests, only below Chile and Peru.

The doctor concluded by expressing that to combat this pandemic a social, economic and health effort must be made to get out of this situation quickly.

APEDE CALLS FOR MORE ‘COORDINATION’ WITHIN THE GOVERNMENT IN DECISION-MAKING ON COVID-19

The Panamanian Association of Company Executives (Apede) strongly questioned the national government after the announcement to reactivate the total quarantine in the provinces of Panama and Panama West. They noted that there is “lack of communication and inter-institutional coordination.”

“The recent announcement by the Ministry of Health to reactivate the quarantine for the provinces of Panama and Panama West, without considering the measures adopted and previously announced by other institutions and State bodies, reveals the lack of inter-institutional communication and coordination, as well as the serious consequences of a lack of coherence in decision-making ”, highlights a press release issued by the union this Sunday, June 7.

The Apede urged the Executive Body to coordinate all the actions between the ministries of Health, Commerce and Industries, Economy and Finance, Labor and Labor Development, Social Development and Security so that, with primary attention to public health, the economy in a responsible and consistent way.

Regarding the system of administration of justice, for the Judicial Power to fulfill its mission of solving “conflicts independently, efficiently, reliably and impartially”, access to justice must be guaranteed to all citizens on an equal basis. of conditions; biasing the effective judicial protection implies the possibility of leaving part of the population defenseless.

The business union highlighted that they are aware that Panama and the entire world are experiencing an unprecedented struggle before an unknown enemy. We know that extreme measures must be taken to get ahead and that we will have successes and failures along the way.https://www.tvn-2.com/nacionales/Apede-cuestiona-comunicacion-coordinacion-COVID-19_0_5596690343.html

VICE MINISTER OF HEALTH MAKES CLARIFICATION ON MOBILITY RESTRICTIONS

The Vice Minister of Health, Luis Fernando Sucre, made a clarification on the mobility restrictions that, in the case of men, who are responsible for the departure on Saturdays, may leave according to the schedule established by the last digit of the ID, so only until 5:00 pm that initiates the curfew.

“From 5:00 p.m. Saturday we enter a curfew until Monday at 5:00 a.m., where mobility is renewed by sex, day and ID number, “said the vice minister.

He reiterated that from Monday to Friday the curfew is from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 am.

He added that adults over sixty (60) years old and disabled people will be able to go out on the day that corresponds to their sex, at a time of 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. exclusively to make their purchases of supplies, both food and medicine.

FILING COMPLAINT AGAINST THE MINISTER AND VICE MINISTER OF HEALTH FOR RESTRICTING CIRCULATION IN THE PROVINCES OF PANAMA AND WEST PANAMA

A criminal complaint for the alleged commission of the crime of abuse of authority was filed before the Public Ministry against the Minister and the Vice Minister of Health, Rosario Turner and Luis Francisco Sucre, respectively, after it was published in the Official Gazette on June 7. Resolution No. 492 of June 6, 2020, which ordered the application of measures to restrict personal mobility in the provinces of Panama and Panama West.

The complaint, presented by the lawyer Roberto Ruíz Díaz, states that the restrictions ordered by Turner and Sucre are “discriminatory and lacking legal validity” and that they were not empowered to do so, since – through Resolution No. 492 – they modified executive decrees 507 of March 24, 2020 and 644 of May 2020, bearing the signature of President Laurentino Cortizo.

Through Resolution No. 492, the Minsa restricted the mobility of the population of Panama and Panama West, according to gender and the last number of the ID.

Ruiz Díaz maintains that the regulatory power to change, modify or alter the content of an executive decree is through another administrative act of the same hierarchical level and not through another, such as a ministerial resolution, so its content it would be contrary to the legal order.

He points out that Turner and Sucre exceed their role, assuming powers that, although they must be dictated by the Ministry of Health, must have the endorsement of the President of the Republic.

At the same time, it ensures that the measure discriminates against two provinces in relation to the rest of the country, without a legal and health support, according to him, to determine that its inhabitants cannot move freely.

Article 19 of the Constitution details that there will be no privileges or discrimination based on race, birth, social class, sex, religion or political ideas, so – according to Ruíz Díaz – the actions of the holders of the Ministry of Health are clearly illegal when applying mobility restrictions.

MICI: BEFORE THE NEW MEASURES FOR PANAMA AND WEST PANAMA, USE OF SAFE CONDUCT WILL BE REQUIRED

The head of the Ministry of Commerce and Industries of Panama (MICI), Ramón Martínez, stated that before the new restrictions issued this Saturday by the Ministry of Health (Minsa) the use of the safe-conduct will be necessary.

This Saturday, the health authorities decided that the provinces of Panama and Panama West, given the increase in the case and the lack of compliance with the provisions for preventing the spread of the coronavirus, return to the restrictions of mobilization according to gender and the last digit of the ID card that imposes the time you can leave.

Given this, citizens who work in the activities that maintain their exception, as described in Decree 507, and those belonging to Block 1 and 2, will have to carry their pass to be able to get to their jobs and homes, respectively.

Provinces of Panama and Panama West return to mobility restriction according to sex and ID number

The companies of Block 1 and 2 that do not yet have their passport can carry out the procedure on the platform https://validacion.salvoconductos.mici.gob.pa/register. While they obtain it, they will be allowed to circulate with a work card and work letter until Wednesday, June 10, while they are validating.

The minister added that companies that already had their passes with the ministry’s validation platform will not have to issue new ones.

RESTRICTION ON MOBILITY WILL STOP THE REACTIVATION OF SUSPENDED CONTRACTS

Severo Sousa, former president of the National Council of Private Enterprise (Conep), says that

“to continue with the confinement as it was two weeks ago, it will be very difficult for the opening of block 3 to take place in the next few days, therefore, Subsequent blocks delay and this will delay the process towards the new normality ”.

He pointed out that the de-escalation should have been gradual, and not “go from one extreme to the other” as it happened.

On June 1, Panama went from a total quarantine nationwide to a night curfew, with the opening of the second economic block that includes industry and the construction of public infrastructure. However, 8 days later it takes a step backwards, restricting mobility in the two main provinces of the country, due to the upturn in cases of contagion by Covid-19. This implies returning to the use of safe conducts for workers who require it.

In this scenario, Sousa called for greater planning by the Government, not only internally, but also with the general public and

“with the private sector so that the reopening of activities can be carried out as a whole in the most orderly manner possible”.

For his part, Felipe Ariel Rodríguez, general manager of Felipe Rodríguez S.A, acknowledges that the confinement measure was necessary due to the high levels of contagion by Covid-19, however,

“the effects will be negative for the labor market.”

“We were planning to add more workers who were in the suspended contracts modality, in fact, a first group had already been reintegrated and we thought about reincorporating a second group, but it is definitely not going to happen, since with this measure Fewer people can go out to demand the products that we offer, therefore we will not need more personnel, “he said.

To date, 45% of workers have been reinstated to the Felipe Rodríguez S.A. payroll.

For Olmedo Estrada, Secretary General of the College of Economists of Panama, returning to confinement,

“will put a brake on what little has already started, mainly because the largest population is concentrated in the provinces of Panama and Panama West. and of economic activities ”.

In this sense, the Panamanian Association of Business Executives asked the Government for greater inter-institutional coordination

“so that, taking care of public health primarily, the economy is not stopped in a responsible and coherent way.”

AUTHORITIES OF THE MORGUE OF THE REGIONAL HOSPITAL OF CHIRIQUÍ ARE SILENT IN THE FACE OF THE CONFUSION OF BODIES

Until now the authorities of the Rafael Hernández Regional Hospital in the province of Chiriquí, remain silent before the confusion in the delivery of two male bodies to their relatives in the morgue of this hospital.

It was learned that after the death of the engineer Agronomist and Chiricano producer by COVID-19 Abel Araúz, the body was allegedly delivered to his relatives sealed as a biosecurity measure, to whom in an emotional ceremony they gave the last goodbye, for their subsequent burial in the Santa Marta cemetery in Bugaba, what their relatives did not know is that the body they buried was not that of the producer. However, another body was handed over to another family a few days later, whom they had identified as Miguel Montiel, but one of the children of the deceased person, when they tried to see him before his burial, realized that the person who had handed him over and that was in the coffin, was not his father, so he immediately made the claim and that is when the staff of the hospital morgue realized that they had confused the bodies and that the person already buried was not the producer.

It was learned that this Sunday the exhumation of the body of Miguel Montiel was carried out, who had been buried by the relatives of the Chirican producer thinking it was Abel Araúz and later exchanging the bodies for his burial.

The fact has been classified as negligence on the part of the relatives of both deceased, who assure that just knowing that their relative is no longer causes very great pain, but it increases with this confusion by irresponsible personnel.

It is expected that in the next few hours the Social Security Fund through the Rafael Hernández Regional Hospital will provide information on the event registered in the morgue of this hospital and the negligence in the delivery of the bodies.

ENDNOTES

Take Note

Motivated by warm events and with the courage of I know not what, I’ve resolved to write a poem after years having not scribed a single letter from my heart and soul.

THE DAY OF THE LILY

Never could my mind’s eye see,
this day of the lily so beautiful and free.
The lily aglow and the phoenix proud,
the stars peered down and praised aloud
While the phoenix views his range,
he beamed at hopes of growth and change
All the while the weeping lily walks the day,
for it’s then the phoenix starts to pray
The phoenix to the lion will plea,
what is now you was once me.
This gentle flower so pure and white,
does not need your brute nor your might.
We care and we prepare as we teach what’s right,
it´s love this flower needs forever and a night.
The lion knew and the lily agreed,
that these clever words they would heed.
Through these words sworn,
the merging of lion and lily would adorn,
A perfect pearl, so bright and rare,
at which the stars would then hope to stare,
The phoenix did then step back,
to admire this pearl, of no blemish, nor crack
As for he and the stars in a craze,
would forever brace this pearl ablaze.
