Watching what’s going on in Kenosha, Wisconsin is simply horrible from every angle.  This beautiful little town of around 100,000, nestled on the shores of Lake Michigan and calmly located right between Chicago and Milwaukee, has somehow come into the spotlight for the whole world to see.  Being from Wisconsin, it’s shocking to think that anything like this could ever happen in my little piece of God’s country, but then I recall the names of some of our previous residents such as  Jeffrey Dahmer, Ed Gein, Walter Ellis, and Christopher Scarver and think, yeah, this all makes sense.  For those who don’t know, Dahmer kidnapped, raped, murdered and ate some 17 boys and men between 1978 and 1991.  Ed Gein, who did kill a few people, would become notorious for having furniture made from body parts he dug up in neighboring cemeteries.  He even had a lampshade made from someone’s face.  The other two are lesser-known, but still made the top ten of Wisconsin’s most dangerous people ever.  Scarver became most famous for having killed Dahmer in prison with exercise equipment.  Ellis was a black man who killed at least 7 black women over a span of 20 years.  These are all very sick, very bad people.

Then we return again to present day and we try to justify the actions of a few and place blame on the whole.  The left champions the attacker/defender guy who died with the skateboard and the right champions the 17yr old gun-toting attacker/defender.  I mush the two words together “attacker/defender” because depending on your fanatical, oops I meant, your political viewpoints, one is a good guy and the other is a bad guy.  Here’s a little wake up call, NEITHER ARE HEROES, for starters.  For the 17yr old to have been there protecting businesses with a high-powered weapon and hand gun, he went there looking for action. He arrived from neighboring Illinois, armed, and it’s thought that he went there to support the police due to his social media profile.  If it were his home and he was defending his family from aggressors, his age is irrelevant.  If anyone’s son or daughter fought off attackers who meant to do them or their family harm, they would be heroes.  However, Kyle Rittenhouse, a YMCA lifeguard at the time, went there ready to fire on whoever came at him, if anyone went at him at all.  In his mind, he was the good guy, wanting to help police officers in what can only be described as a chaos-driven shitshow formally known as Kenosha.  Then, that shitshow came at him in the form of rioters.  They weren’t peaceful protestors, they were Molotov cocktail launching, physical harm causing, skateboard to the head masters.  Was every protestor in Kenosha doing this?  Nope.  But there were a good many purposefully causing damage.  If Rittenhouse wouldn’t have gone, he wouldn’t have killed anyone and he wouldn’t be facing manslaughter charges.  Even though he went, if the peaceful rioters wouldn’t have attacked him, he wouldn’t have fired on them either.  I’m certain of that.  He’s a good kid, with poor guidance, making bad choices.  If the rioters wouldn’t have gone, they’d be alive.  Then again, if they did go, but didn’t attack anyone, they’d also be alive.  I’m certain that they were good “kids” as well.

What’s fascinating is that everyone that was there that night, everyone thought that they were doing what was right, regardless of whether or not what they did was legal, dangerous, threatening, stupid or whatever.  This is one of those conundrums where everyone can be right and wrong at the same time, but the majority of the spectators still miss the point completely.

I’m a spectator and because of how I grew up and where I grew up, this hits home very particularly.  I grew up with Major General Paul Knapp, the Adjutant General of the Wisconsin National Guard, as we were in Antigo High School together, although he was a few grades beneath me.  A good man, trying to keep peace in an already unruly town, had to request the assistance from National Guard members from Michigan, Arizona and another state that I just forgot.  He said it better than anyone.  He intends to allow the people to exercise their rights to protest, but that there was a large group of people looking to cause damage, which just undermines the intent and goal of the core protestors.

Just the same, I’ve tried to stay unbiased through the whole ordeal.  I’ve tried to remain middle-of-the-road and it’s not easy.  What’s going on can’t be viewed as a simplified black and white scenario; it’s also not a racially black-white scenario either.  You have to look at the very beginning of this problem and it doesn’t start where most people begin their analysis of what happened.

The left starts with, a 17yr old kid was illegally carrying a weapon and killed two people, injuring another.

The right starts a little sooner than this with, a 17yr old kid took it upon himself to safeguard a business and defended it to the death; he’s a hero.

You could then go back to Jacob Blake.  Blake was ruthlessly shot 7 times in the back by police.  Blake survived.  Interestingly enough, you can hear when the police officer told Blake to drop the knife.  Blake later admits that he had a knife in his hand.  This is what kicked off the protests/riots.

No sir, no maam, you all need to go back further in time, way before all of that, to understand the problems we’re seeing.  If you don’t go further back, you miss the point completely.

The problem that we have now is the same we’ve always had.  It’s a lack of care to understand the pain of another.  This turns to frustration, which turns to violence.  There were a few great individuals in time who knew how to get their points across without it leading to violence.  Sadly, most of them died at the hands of other violent men, but their point became known and their drive became immortal.  They were the true badasses.  Today’s protestors and rioters are punks who only make matters worse in their stance and could never match the brilliance of some of the greatest our world has witnessed.  That is my point.  I have an uncle, we’ll call him Uncle Jim, who is, in my mind, also a badass.  He doesn’t think so.  He was always my hero and when I learned of his famed peaceful protests in Madison, that feeling was only strengthened further.  Here are a few of my other favorite badasses in time:

Ghandi’s famous salt march of 1930.  This is by far my favorite.  The genius behind this simple concept was perfect.  British rule stated that the Indians, in their own country, could not collect or sell salt.  So, Mahatma Ghandi rounded up a group of supporters in 1930 and marched 240 miles to the ocean.  To put that into perspective, that’s like walking from Panama City to Tonosi!!  His group grew along the way.  Upon arrival, they collected salt naturally from the ocean and an estimated 60,000 people were arrested.  The police weren’t so peaceful, but the supporters were which eventually lead to a negotiation for salt rights for the Indian people and independence some 17 years later.  How many fire bombs were thrown by the protestors?  None.

I have a dream.  In 1963, 200,000 people gathered around the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.  They were protesting segregation and demanded equal rights for all…. ….FOOOOOR AAAAAALL….  Martin Luther King Jr conducted his peaceful protest which sparked a positive change in the USA reminding everyone that all people are created equal.  How many rocks were thrown at the police?  None.

If you have to get violent, the violence should be focused on the symbolic aggressor.  In this case, the Boston Tea Party, was a political and mercantile protest of the Sons of Liberty in Boston, Massachusetts on December 16, 1773.  The Tea Act of May 10, 1773 allowed certain freedoms for some companies while the Townshend Act was kicking their asses in taxes.  So, the American Patriots looted a neighboring town, took over one square mile of land, imposed warlord law on the dwellers, stole personal properties from those unsuspecting dolts in lean-to tents and… ….oh, no, that was Seattle earlier this year.  Sorry, I lost track of my “peaceful protests”.  No, they instead snuck on to a ship loaded with tea sent by the British East India Company and dumped it overboard.  It was awesome.  How many innocent bystanders were robbed or attacked?  None.

But, you wanna know who else is an absolute badass?  Brooke Ryan.  Right now, you’re asking yourself, “Self… who in the heck is Brooke Ryan?”, but you won’t have an answer because you probably don’t know.  Let’s just say, for starters, that there are a lot of people out there who just can’t handle boobs.  So, picture if you will, this badass mom, Brooke Ryan is sitting in the back booth of a restaurant breast-feeding her baby around 2007, when a manager came out and told her to cover up.  Nope, you done messed with the wrooooooong momma, big guy.  Because of this incident, women got organized and conducted “nurse-ins”, which is simply breastfeeding their babies in plain sight.  There were exposed boobs everywhere!  How awesome is that?  No, Brooke didn’t “ask to see the owner”, then throw her own poop at the cashier like a fricken Neanderthal, uh uh, she initiated a peaceful coordinated attack that spanned 30 states and tens of thousands of women who released their inner aura, and their boobies, gaining attention for the problem and an apology from that restaurant.  Even Queen Sayira understands when I say that I love Brooke Ryan.

So what’s the point?  You protestors need to pick up your game.  You need to find your inner Ghandi, your spiritual Sons of Liberty and learn how peace IS the answer.  Violence on violence never gets you peace.  It’s so easy to attack unprotected easy targets, but real strength comes from overcoming oppression, using your creative mind and setting the example.

Yoli’s Summary

Staying in a place with poor air circulation for a long time can be risky. With the return to classes and offices in many countries, preventing the spread of the coronavirus inside buildings has become a key issue.

For months we have been told to wash our hands and maintain social distancing to avoid SARS-CoV-2 that causes the covid-19 disease. But scientists and engineers say we must also think about the air we breathe, as children return to classrooms and more people return to work.

1. If it’s stuffy, stay away

When you walk into a room and the air feels stale or stuffy, something is wrong with the ventilation. Not enough fresh air is getting in, increasing the chances of getting infected with coronavirus. Recent research shows that in confined spaces there can be “airborne transmission” of the virus, as small particles of the pathogen remain in the air.

2. Monitor the air conditioning

From offices to shops, air conditioning is welcome on hot days, but it is important to know what type of appliance there is.

The simplest, known as a split air conditioner, takes air from a room, cools it, and then blows it out again.

In other words, you are recirculating the air. This is not a problem if you visit a place quickly. But it can be a risk if you are in the place for several hours.

3. Find out about the ‘fresh air ratio’

In a modern building where the windows are sealed, how can you get enough fresh air?

Given the risk of coronavirus infection, the professional advice is to maximize the fresh supply outside. “The fresher air, the lower the risk of the virus circulating again in a building,” he adds.

4. Check the filters

A modern ventilation system should have filters, but these are not foolproof. Researchers in the US who studied what was happening at the Oregon Health and Science University Hospital found that the filters caught traces of coronavirus, but some were able to escape it.

Professor Kevin van den Wymelenberg, who led the project, believes that cleaning the filters could reveal whether someone is working in a building infected.

5. Be careful with drafts

Any expert in the field says it: fresh air is the key. But a specialist in modeling the movement of air adds that it is not so simple.

Nick Wirth used to work on Formula 1 car design and now advises supermarkets and food processing companies on how to manage airflow to keep people safe.

It warns that if someone is sitting next to an open window and they are infected, they could transmit the virus to others in the direction of the wind.

“If you open a window, where is the air going to go? You don’t want people in a direct line of that air flow,” he explains.

“More fresh air is generally better, but if it flows horizontally and is full of viruses, it could have unintended consequences.”

There are still many things we do not know about the virus.

But the air we breathe will be part of any effort to make buildings safer.

SANITARY FENCE IN PESA DE LA CHORRERA IS GONE!!

The health fence of La Pesa de La Chorrera was eliminated.

The sanitary fence that was located in La Pesa de La Chorrera, in the province of Panama Oeste, was eliminated as of today, according to the Vice Minister of Internal Trade and Industries, Omar Montilla.

In the same way, he specified that, before the elimination of the other health fences, control points will be established randomly to maintain the preventive measure against the coronavirus.

“We have studied the issue of sanitary fences, but the control points will be maintained,” said Deputy Minister Montilla in an interview with Telemetro Reporta.

He clarified that now the responsibility to take preventive measures against COVID-19 is not only the National Government.

“The citizen must already understand that we must live with COVID-19,” he said.

During the interview, Vice Minister Montilla was emphatic in mentioning that the fact that the sanitary fences have been eliminated does not mean that walks are allowed.

“By province, people will be able to arrive and those who have beach houses also to do their activities, but walks will not be allowed, because we do not want crowds,” he said.

The elimination of the sanitary fences comes after yesterday the Cabinet Council approved several dates for the opening of new economic activities, starting next Monday, September 7.

As reported by the Cabinet Council, the opening of new economic activities must be in compliance with the biosecurity measures required by the Ministry of Health (Minsa) in the so-called new normal.

COMPANIES REJECT NEW REOPENING SCHEDULE

The heads of the main business unions in the country disagreed with the new schedule for the reopening of economic activities announced by the Government of Panama last Tuesday, August 25.

The virtual event Café con La Prensa brought together the presidents of the National Council of Private Enterprise (Conep), Julio De La Lastra; of the Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Panama (Cciap), Jean-Pierre Leignadier; from the Panamanian Association of Business Executives (Apede), Elisa Suárez; from the Panamanian Chamber of Construction (Capac), Jorge Lara; and the Sindicato de Industriales de Panamá (SIP), Aldo Mangravita.

The Government presented a calendar for the reopening of activities and greater flexibility in the mobility of citizens that begins next September 7 and runs until October 12. However, a good number of activities, such as educational ones, would remain undated for reactivation.

Although they appreciated that the authorities have accepted some of the recommendations made, the representatives of the private sector also expressed their frustration because many of the proposals are not received and because of the obstacles in the reopening process.

De La Lastra announced that they will propose a reconsideration to the Government and a timetable will be proposed that considers “the debacle that we see coming immediately at an economic and social level.” The president of Conep said that the sense of urgency must be felt due to the seriousness of the economic situation. “Extending the reopening period to October is not positive at all. At the tables where we participate, we have never proposed such an initiative or such a schedule “, he clarified.

The new coronavirus pandemic has generated a health crisis, but also an economic one. The economy is expected to contract between 8% and 10% this year; while unemployment could go from 7% to 20%, which could exceed 400,000 unemployed people, said De La Lastra, who anticipated that 40% of companies will not reopen or will do so very slowly.

In this sense, Jean-Pierre Leignadier showed that, in a survey carried out by the Chamber of Commerce among some 300 companies, more than 65% said that they are closed or partially operating; 90% report a decrease in sales from the pandemic; 45% estimate a reduction in staff in the next four months; and 60% expect negative conditions after the pandemic.

“As the closing of activities has been extended, the worse the economic impact will be when the opening takes place. We no longer need an opening schedule because the opening of activities will necessarily be gradual because companies are not able to open immediately, ”he said.

In this reactivation phase, companies require a facilitating public sector that does not impose bureaucratic obstacles or pass laws that undermine the country’s productivity. In this sense, the president of the Apede emphasized the importance of reducing the levels of bureaucracy and of making a transition towards the digitization of meaningful processes. “Digitization is a great step that the pandemic has led us to … What we cannot do is digitize what does not work, maintain systems to register a health committee or contracts suspended on pages that fall, that are not available. the height of the needs. We have to be head to head in perfecting that bureaucracy, “he said.

Suárez also referred to a series of bills that are in the Assembly and that would limit the country’s productive capacity. He referred, for example, to a proposal to control the interest rates that banks can charge, since this could limit the ability of banks to lend, something necessary in the reactivation.

To support the granting of loans, the businessmen also proposed the creation of a program of state guarantees, an initiative that should come with the endorsement of the Executive.

Furthermore, the Government was asked for more empathy with the situation that the productive sector is going through. “Companies and citizens have sacrificed so much and we do not see the same in the Government,” said Leignadier, referring to a general state budget for 2021 that grows 3.3% compared to 2020, with an increase of $ 202 million in services personal, while income is limited as a result of the pandemic.

If the activities that will open in the coming weeks will face challenges, they have also had to be experienced by the sectors that have continued to operate in the midst of the pandemic.

This is the case of the agri-food industry. The president of the IAPA, Aldo Mangravita, spoke of the difficulties generated by sanitary fences in the agri-food chain, hindering the movement of people and goods “without a scientific reason to support it” and causing delay and frustration. “I restrict Mobility needs have to end. We cannot continue with these whimsical inspections that stop the economy, ”said Mangravita, representative of a sector that employs 140,000 people.

Another of the activities that generates the most employment in the country and that suffered a complete stoppage was construction, a sector that contributes 17% of the gross domestic product, according to the president of Capac, Jorge Lara.

Lara said that the entire private sector understood the call to stay at home during the first months, but as of June 1, an “economic and non-health quarantine began,” since many people went out to seek sustenance in the sector informal. “On this we based the request to reopen, because our workers were on the street,” since the economic relief agreed with the industry had ended.

Like the rest of the panelists, Lara assured that the companies are prepared to resume the activity, since for months resolutions have been issued by the Ministry of Labor and Labor Development and the Ministry of Health and the protocols were adopted.

However, he regretted that when some projects have been reactivated, as has happened in recent weeks, the authorities have demanded new requirements.

Lara recalled that when a strike for collective bargaining took place in 2018, it took between one and two months to recover the level of activity. Now after five months in detention, the delay will be more important. “We are going to have a slow return and double that time to be able to reach a true productive stage,” Lara said.

In part, because the works must be adapted, and the incorporation of the workers will be gradual, something that did not happen after the 2018 strike, when all the workers rejoined at once.

Shopping centers say they are ‘baffled’

The Panamanian Association of Shopping Centers expressed their bewilderment after learning the opening dates of economic activities. So far, only online sale and local withdrawal are allowed. The sector expected that face-to-face commerce would be allowed from September 7, but this will not happen until the 28th of the same month. The union recalled that digital sales are not enough to reactivate new jobs and makes “unsustainable the survival of many businesses, which have chosen to close.”

THE MINISTER OF HEALTH REMINDS US THAT REOPENING IS CONDITIONED THAT THE RT IS BELOW 1%, THE LETHALITY IS LESS THAN 3%, AND THE AVAILABILITY OF BEDS IS 20%

The reactivation of the economy is conditional, as was made very clear by the Minister of Health Luis Francisco Sucre.

Sucre assured that for the announced actions to take place, strict compliance by the population with hygiene measures and the biosafety protocol is required.

Maintaining the effective reproduction rate or (RT) below 1%, the lethality below 3% and the availability of beds in the hospital ward at 20% are some of the requirements for the Plan to be implemented. Updated National-Provincial Reopening, presented yesterday.

If the indicators are favorable and the current trend continues, on September 7, the construction industry, Panama Pacifico, Colon Free Zone and other free zones will be opened, in addition to tailors, dressmakers, shoe stores, car washes. , private marinas and sport fishing, Minister Sucre said.

On September 14 it is planned to lift the mobility restriction by gender.

In addition, the safe conduct will be void.

Except for those companies that due to their economic activity have to transit in hours in which the curfew is maintained, which for that date will be established from 11:00 pm to 5:00 am from Monday to Saturday and the total quarantine will be maintained on Sunday.

While for September 21 the opening of federative sports activities must begin, but without public.

For next October 12 with the reopening of most of the activities that had been suspended due to the pandemic.

The availability of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Special Respiratory Care Unit (UCRE) by 15% or more will also be decisive for each of the reopening.

SCIENTIFIC VARIABLES AND HOSPITAL CAPACITY, KEYS FOR EXECUTION OF THE NATIONAL REOPENING PLAN

The Vice Minister of Commerce, Juan Carlos Sosa, said that the national or provincial reopening plan was agreed between government authorities and the private sector, using scientific information and external consultants.

He explained that it is a sensible plan, with a certain degree of flexibility and subject to certain health variables such as, for example, that the RT (contagion index) is below 1%, capacity of beds in the room of 20%, capacity of bed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of 15% and that the lethality remains below 3%.

Emphasize that all activities with stipulated dates are subject to the variables being maintained.

Next September 7 will be an important day, says the deputy minister, since the construction sector is reactivated, which represents one of the most important sectors in the country and which generates about 180 thousand jobs that are reactivated, as well as related activities (engineers, architects, moving, hauling).

On that same date, free zones such as the Panama Pacific Special Economic Area and the Colon Free Zone will also open, as well as tailor shops, dressmakers, shoe stores and car washes.

The official clarified that in the case of Panama Pacifico the companies are reactivated and not the entire area such as gyms and other types of activities that are in the area.

It is expected that by that date about 200 thousand jobs will be reactivated.

He called for good sense so that all people do their part and, at the same time, entrepreneurs and merchants to comply with all the protocols established by the authorities and warns that the Ministries of Health and Commerce and Industries are going to monitor that comply.

WHO WARNS OF THE RISK OF YOUNG PEOPLE INFECTING ELDERLY

WHO warns of the risk of young people infecting the elderly.

The head of the World Health Organization for Europe warned on Thursday that COVID-19 is a “long-tailed tornado” and that the increase in the number of cases among young people could ultimately affect older people, who are more vulnerable, and cause an increase in mortality figures.

Dr Hans Kluge said that young people are likely to come into closer contact with the elderly as the environment cools in Europe.

“We don’t want to make unnecessary predictions, but this is definitely one of the options: that in a moment there will be more hospitalizations and an increase in mortality,” he told reporters from Copenhagen, the headquarters of the WHO in Europe.

Kluge said that 32 of the 55 states parties and territories in the WHO European region have seen an increase in the 14-day incidence rate of more than 10%, calling that “definitely a rebound that is widespread in Europe.”

However, he also commented that health authorities and other officials are better positioned and more prepared than in February, when the continent was on the cusp of a sharp increase in cases and deaths.

PROMOTE PROJECT OF LAW SO THAT PRIVATE VEHICLES CIRCULATE ACCORDING TO THE PLATE NUMBER IN PANAMA

Traffic in Panama Oeste.

At a time when the capital remains under the mobility restriction due to the coronavirus pandemic, the deputies promote a bill that seeks to circulate private vehicles in the provinces of Panama and West Panama according to the license plate number.

Víctor Castillo, deputy and secretary of the Communication and Transportation Commission of the National Assembly, said that in this time of pandemic it has been possible to experience a relief in terms of vehicular traffic, especially in the capital.

Therefore, he maintains that it is time for the project to be discussed, which establishes that cars will transit by license plate number: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, the plates with even numbers; and Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays with odd numbers. On Sundays “free”, he said.

The hours would be from 5:00 a.m. at 6:00 pm.

“Panama has the same streets and what has increased are vehicles,” he said.

According to Castillo, there are 1.5 million vehicles in the country and 75% circulate in Panama and Panama Oeste. “At this time of pandemic we have seen the streets empty and it has helped us not have the stress of roadblocks,” he said.

Public and selective transport would be excluded.

A REPELLENT WITH EUCALYPTUS CAN KILL THE CORONAVIRUS, ACCORDING TO BRITISH STUDY

A chemical used in insect repellants, whose active component comes from eucalyptus, can neutralize the strain of the coronavirus that causes covid-19, according to a study published yesterday by the British Ministry of Defense.

Scientists at the Defense Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL) found that Citriodiol, used in anti-mosquito products such as Mosi-guard, had antiviral properties applied to the virus in liquid form and on a test surface.

The product was applied directly to SARS-CoV-2 in the form of a drop and on a latex “synthetic skin”, the ministry explained in a statement. In both cases, it was effective against the virus.

At a high concentration, the “Mosi-guard resulted in a significant decrease” of this strain of coronavirus, he added.

Citriodiol is made from oil extracted from the leaves and stems of the eucalyptus citriodora, which grows in South America, Africa, and Asia, and has already been known to kill other types of coronavirus.

The study has not been externally reviewed by other scientists and according to the Defense Ministry its objective is to serve as a “basis for other scientific organizations that are investigating the virus and its possible solutions.”

“The DSTL hopes that the findings of this research can be used as a springboard for other organizations to expand and develop the research, as well as to confirm the findings of this publication,” he said.

In May, British Defense Minister Ben Wallace said his country’s armed forces were using the insect repellent as additional protection against the coronavirus, after receiving confirmation that it was not harmful.

PANAMA HAS NOT MADE ANY PAYMENT TO ACQUIRE VACCINE AGAINST COVID-19, MINISTER SUCRE ASSURED

The Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre, said that the entire procedure that this entails is still being evaluated.

The Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre, said that the entire procedure that this entails is still being evaluated.

No payment has yet been made, nor has Panama yet been registered to acquire vaccines against COVID-19.

The Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre, said that the entire procedure that this entails is still being evaluated.

At the same time, he indicated that Panama is working on this at three tables.

One of these tables is made up of a team of professionals specifically to address the issue of the vaccine.

This staff is in charge of providing advice and evaluating various aspects that may be feasible.

The second team is a research consortium specialized in vaccines.

While the third team is made up of different government ministers, who are in charge of making contacts and conversations regarding rapprochement with different countries.

Sucre added that those in charge of this team of ministers are: Deputy Minister of Foreign Relations Erika Mouynes and Deputy Minister of Health Ivette Berrío, said Minister Sucre.

The World Health Organization (WHO) announced on Monday that 172 countries, representing 70% of the world’s population, have joined or shown interest in the COVAX coalition.

COVAX is the WHO mechanism to achieve the development and equitable distribution of a vaccine against COVID-19.

MINSA NOTES A DECREASE IN THE NUMBER OF DEATHS FROM COVID-19 WITH THE USE OF HYDROXYCHLOROCINE

The use of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin in Panama has resulted in a decrease in the number of deaths due to COVID-19, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported on Thursday.

“Since the Ministry of Health authorized the use of hydroxychloroquine and / or azithromycin as drugs to treat COVID-19 positive patients, a significant decrease in cases of this disease has been noted… for the week of July 25 to July 31, Panama registered 171 deceased, while in the days that have elapsed this week in August, 73 have been registered ”, highlights the Minsa.

He points out that, in light of these results, the head of Health, Luis Sucre, decided to maintain the use of hydroxychloroquine as a therapeutic use in hospital wards for patients with coronavirus.

“The Minsa is committed to the effective use of hydroxychloroquine as a functional treatment, each population group may experience a diversified reaction to the application of a certain drug, which is influenced by genetic factors or other characteristics of individuals,” he explains the Minsa.

It is worth mentioning that Panama had suspended the use of hydroxychloroquine on June 27, due to a scientific observation made by the British journal The Lancet, however, on July 13, the General Directorate of Public Health, on the instruction of Minister Sucre, issued Circular No. 140 by which public and private health authorities were authorized to resume the use of this drug as a therapeutic option.

TAXIS WILL RETURN TO CIRCULATE IN PANAMA AND PANAMA WEST ACCORDING TO THE PLATE NUMBER

The Terrestrial Transit and Transportation Authority (ATTT) announced this Wednesday, August 26, that the circulation of taxis in the provinces of Panama and Panama Oeste will be subject to the last digit of the license plate as of tomorrow Thursday.

With this decision, the selective transport in these provinces will operate again as they have been doing since the beginning of the quarantine; taxis whose license plates end in an odd number will be able to work on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Those that end in pairs will do so on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

With part of the new measures for economic reactivation, the ATTT had arranged for selective transport to operate without restrictions as of last Monday.

However, taxi unions opposed the measure and demanded that the restriction be maintained because there was no demand for passengers on the streets.

“When considering that dividing the sector into two groups, a balance between operating expenses and income is produced, guaranteeing a better service to the user, the decision is reached to reactivate the circulation by the last digit of the plate in Panama and Panama Oeste, from Thursday, August 27, ”reported the Transit Authority.

PROTESTS

Earlier, taxi drivers, in the province of Panama Oeste, closed the Inter-American highway at various points, demanding that the government once again limit the circulation of selective transport by days and according to the number of plates.

In social networks, a vehicular traffic jam was reported to the Las Américas bridge.

In sectors such as Vista Alegre and Loma Cová there were closures.

FDA AUTHORIZES ABBOTT’S FAST $ 5 COVID-19 TEST

The test returns results in 15 minutes. Abbott Laboratories

A COVID-19 test that takes 15 minutes and can be run without lab equipment was just granted emergency use authorization by the Food and Drug Administration. It will cost $ 5, and runs on a simple card that uses the same technology as a pregnancy test.

The test, called BinaxNOW, is produced by the health care company Abbott. The company is also launching an app that syncs up with the tests, and gives people who test negative for the virus a “digital health pass” that they can display on their phone. CEO Robert Ford said in a statement that the combination of the test and the app offer a “comprehensive testing solution.”

The company said in a press release that it plans to produce 50 million tests per month by October.

“Due to its simpler design and the large number of tests the company anticipates making in the coming months, this new antigen test is an important advancement in our fight against the pandemic,” said Jeff Shuren, director of the FDA Center for Devices and Radiological Health, in a statement.

The test can be used in doctors’ offices, emergency rooms, and even schools, according to the FDA statement. It runs off a nasal swab. Then, the patient nasal sample gets inserted directly into the BinaxNOW card, and a colored line appears if the test is positive for coronavirus.

BinaxNOW works by detecting the small proteins on the surface of the coronavirus, rather than the genetic sequences of the virus itself. Tests that look for proteins, called antigen tests, instead of the virus tend to be less accurate. Some researchers, though, argue that frequent, cheap testing with a less-accurate test is the best way to control the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abbott says that the test correctly diagnoses a coronavirus infection 97.1 percent of the time, and correctly returns a negative result 98.5 percent of the time.

Most COVID-19 tests available today have to be sent off to a lab for analysis. This summer, people around the United States have reported waiting up to a week for results. “With a rapid antigen test, you get a result right away, getting infectious people off the streets and into quarantine so they don’t spread the virus,” said Joseph Petrosino, a professor of molecular virology and microbiology at Baylor College of Medicine, in a statement from Abbott.

END NOTES

What better way to end this, than with some fulfilling quotes from Ghandi.

“An eye for an eye will only make the whole world blind.”

― Mahatma Gandhi

“Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.”

― Mahatma Gandhi

“Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”

― Mahatma Gandhi

“Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.”

― Mahatma Gandhi

“Where there is love there is life.”

― Mahatma Gandhi

“The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.”

― Mahatma Gandhi

“Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.”

― Mahatma Gandhi

“Hate the sin, love the sinner.”

― Mahatma Gandhi

“You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is like an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.”

― Mahatma Gandhi

“The future depends on what you do today.”

― Mahatma Gandhi

“To believe in something, and not to live it, is dishonest.”

― Mahatma Gandhi

 And one of my favorites:

“Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it is very important that you do it.”

― Mahatma Gandhi

Stay safe…  Stay healthy…  And by all means (unless you’re walking to Tonosi to mimic the peaceful acts of Ghandi (yeah right)) STAY HOME!!…
