For those who read my weekly reports know, we have a new family member. His name is Ragnar the Viking King Warrior. Since naming him, we’ve made important adaptations to his full name when appropriate. You’ll see what I mean as I explain herein.
When a new dog comes into your family, it´s common knowledge that you establish a series of goals and commitments that, although you may have meant well, you really never had any intentions of keeping. In other words, you start living another lie. In this case, we started living a series of lies. It’s kind of like those shirts I have in my closet. I keep the dress shirts hanging there, even though I’ve only worn dress shirts a handful of times in the last year during the course of this pandemic. I think to myself, “I’ll make it an effort to wear those shirts this next week.”, and instead I reach for my Deadpool, Harley Davidson or any number of fishing shirts. Or what about those “other” t-shirts in that same closet that simply don’t fit me anymore due to my pandemic-adjusted body. You know what I mean, more fat down there, more muscle up there…. Anywho, these are lies that I’ve made to myself with good intentions, but knowingly will never really accomplish.
The first series of lies were established by our children and used as a tool of manipulation that we all know all too well. “We promise to take care of him!”, they said in perfect unison. “Yeah, right.” I responded, laughing in blatant disbelief, snorting out my morning coffee. “Nice try, boys. You’re going to have to negotiate better than that. And if you’re going to lie, you have to lie better than you mom does to me on pay day.” So, they offered a series of other shallow promises including, but not limited to: We promise to: exercise more, bathe the dogs, clean up our rooms, call their grandmother often, not steal Dad’s hidden snacks, help with the weekend chores without complaining about it and no more asking for toys and games all the time. Funny they didn’t lie about “doing their homework on time”. I suppose everyone has a limit to just how big of a lie you’re willing to make.
The next series of lies came from me. “I will have nothing to do with the new dog. Feeding him, cleaning up after him, etc is all on you guys!” “I will not tolerate any funny business like chewing on things or loud noises out of him either.” I said that, but right now as I type, Ragnar the Annoying Beast is chewing on my original Crocs office loafers… …while they’re on my feet and I just called him a “good boy”.
Then the whopper of a lie was, “I promise not to love the dog more than I love my family.”…. Let’s just say that the person who regurgitated that sucker, well, her nickname rhymes with “Bean”. As she’ll tell me and the boys, “You don’t need air conditioning, just wear less clothes.”, she will simultaneously turn on the AC from the office, dining room and living rooms just in case Ragnar the Spoiled Rotten SOB decided he needed to go to another room.
MORE FUN RAGNAR THE EVIL BEING FACTS: The Bean… …oops, I meant, “The Queen”, has three standard phrases that she yells out randomly during any given day. In no particular order, they are:

When it comes to getting vaccinated against covid-19, you don’t have to be picky. Experts say you should get the first licensed vaccine they offer you.
The most recent covid vaccine, from Johnson & Johnson, is probably slightly less effective in preventing the disease than the two vaccines already given in the United States, from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna.
On January 29, Johnson & Johnson (J&J) announced that, in a 45,000-person trial, its vaccine was 66% effective in preventing moderate to severe cases of the disease.
According to the company, none of those vaccinated was hospitalized or died from covid. J&J communicated that it would request authorization from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) immediately. If the agency authorizes its use, millions of doses could be distributed starting in late February.
J & J’s vaccine is similar to Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech, but uses a different strategy to transport the genetic code into human cells to stimulate immunity to disease.
In fall clinical trials, Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines were 94% effective against COVID. They also avoided almost all serious cases.
But the difference in those levels of effectiveness can be misleading. The vaccines were tested in different locations and at different stages of the pandemic. Additionally, J&J gave their trial subjects a single dose, while Moderna and Pfizer administered two doses, 28 and 21 days apart, respectively.
However, the bottom line is that all three do a good job of preventing severe cases of covid.

The data that Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech submitted to the FDA came from large clinical trials that took place during the summer and early fall in the United States.
At that time, none of the new covid variants had emerged, some of which might better evade the immune responses produced by vaccines. Instead, the J&J trial began in September and was administered to people from South America, South Africa, and the United States.
The new variants from Brazil and South Africa appear to be somewhat better at evading vaccine defenses, and a new variant in California – where many J&J volunteers have signed up – may also have that feature.
J & J’s vaccine was 72% effective against moderate to severe COVID in the US portion of the trial, compared with 57% in South Africa, where the dominant strain is a more contagious mutant virus.
Another vaccine, made by the Maryland company Novavax, was 90% effective in a large British clinical trial, but only 50% effective in South Africa. The Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines might not have had the same dramatic results had they been tried more recently, or in South Africa.
“This vaccine has been tested in the pandemic in the here and now,” said Dr. Dan Barouch, a Harvard Medical School professor whose laboratory, at the Virology and Vaccine Research Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, developed the J&J vaccine. “The pandemic is much more complex today than it was a few months ago.”
Part of the difference in results could also be attributed to different patient populations or disease conditions, and not just the mutant virus.

MONITORING OF PEOPLE VACCINATED AGAINST COVID-19 WILL BE CARRIED OUT THROUGH A DIGITAL TOOL
Dr. Eduardo Ortega explained that, through a tool, developed by the Authority for Government Innovation (AIG), the monitoring of people vaccinated against covid-19 in Panama will be carried out.
The vaccination process is developed by an executing unit:
- A nurse giving the vaccine

To date, the vaccination process has proceeded normally, and 12,806 vaccines have been administered.
Of the total number of vaccinated, who in this phase correspond to health personnel, 42 developed symptoms and were found to be positive.
Ortega explained that the positives were incubating the virus at the time they were vaccinated.
In each province there has been at least one vaccinated person who has had symptoms and has been tested for covid-19.
Two thirds of the people vaccinated are women.
CORONAVIRUS IN CHINA: 4 FACTS ABOUT THE ORIGIN OF THE PANDEMIC REVEALED BY WHO AFTER ITS MISSION IN WUHAN
It was a difficult mission and it ends without a definitive conclusion, but with important details.
The international team sent by the World Health Organization (WHO) to China to investigate the origin of the covid-19 pandemic concluded its stay in the country with a press conference in which it revealed some keys to its findings.

Specifically, the Trump administration pointed to the possibility that the virus emerged from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, one of the main in China in the study of level 4 pathogens, which require the highest degree of biological safety, and that it was one of those designated by the authorities to analyze the genome sequence of the new coronavirus.

2- BATS
The WHO team investigated four potential sources of the origin of SARS-CoV-2 transmission to humans:
Direct transmission from animal to human
Transmission through an intermediate animal host (from animal to animal and then to humans)
Transmission through frozen food in the cold chain
Possible leak from a laboratory
“The investigators consider that the most probable is the second option and this line of investigation was prioritized”, informed the correspondent of the BBC in China Stephen McDonell, who attended the press conference.
“Everything continues to point to a reservoir of this virus, or a similar virus, in bat populations,” said Embarek.
However, they considered it unlikely that this was found in Wuhan. The team, therefore, tried to find “other animal species that could contribute to introduce the virus” in the Chinese city, as intermediate hosts.
“It does not appear that there was a large circulation of the virus in any animal species in the country,” where Chinese scientists analyzed thousands of species without being able to identify any especially carriers, he said.
3- COLD CHAIN
Although transmission through an intermediate animal host “is the most likely [cause] and the one that will require further study and investigation,” Embarek also considered transmission through some frozen food from the cold chain possible, although he said they didn’t know much about it.
The zoologist explained that the team had identified vendors from the Huanan “wet” market, to which some of the first official cases of COVID-19 were linked and in which frozen animal products were sold, including wild animals.

MEDUCA: 81% OF SCHOOLS ARE READY FOR THE VACCINATION PROCESS
The Ministry of Education (Meduca) reported that 81% of the 1,010 schools that will be used in phase two to vaccinate the population over 60 years old against Covid-19 were already adequate.
